Starting a Family After a Century of Waiting

After over 110 years, Henry the Lizard has become a father. Henry is a tuatara, an endangered species only found on New Zealand's offshore islands. He is the oldest tuatara to ever mate at Southland Musuem on the country's South Island. For the longest time, Henry was kept by himself  since he showed no interest in any females and would sometimes attack them when they were looking to mate. But that all changed in 2002 when a cancerous lump was removed from beneath the lizard. Soon after, Henry's attitude towards women quickly changed. Now, Henry is a happy father who has recently entered his middle age for a species that can live well past 200.

New Zealand Mourns Loss of Shrek the Shaggy Sheep

This past Tuesday, New Zealand loss their most famous sheep, Shrek, who was reknowned for avoiding being shorn for years. Shrek first appeared in the national spotlight back in 2004 after he evaded annual shearing roundups for the previous seven years by hiding in caves. When he was eventually found, he was engulfed in 60 pounds of wool. Shrek's story has inspired three books.
